Is there a difference between the Australian spec Ford Falcon and the New Zealand spec?
Q. I have a New Zealand spec Ford Falcon, and I'm wondering if I'd be in any trouble if I took it with me to Australia in a few years. Are the two technically totally identical, or are there emissions components and safety equipment on the Australian model I don't have? In short, would it make sense to bring in my Falcon, or would I be better off buying a new car in Oz?

A. you'd be better off selling what you have. There is a possibility that they are slightly different, which opens up a whole tin of worms with the government bodies. These cars are cheap and plentiful here, so you won't lose. Plus it avoids the hassle of paying for shipping, import taxes since it is a late model, and compliance and blue slips etc. If it was an older classic, then i would say bring it. But if it's late model, then leave it behind and find another good one here.

Cost of restoring interior upholstery -'66 Ford Falcon - with new-old stock fabric?
Q. I have a '66 Ford Falcon Futura Sports Coupe. We have new-old stock fabric at home that I want to use to reupholster the seats. Has anybody out there done a similar job to their car? I'm looking for price ranges. I'm also wondering if you folks out there have any idea of how desirable Falcons are on the current market. Once the seats are reupholstered and the car's looking clean, I'm going to sell it (the engine's been rebuilt and the chassis and interior are in otherwise 'very good' condition). Thank you

A. Check Hemmings Motor News and the Old Car Trader for prices and values. Also look for a magazine called Collector Car Market Report. I get them at Books a Million / Joe Muggs newsstand.

Q. i love the new body styles for the ford falcon. do you think ford will ever bring it to the usa?

A. Well the Holden Commodore got nothing but rave reviews when it was sold here as the Pontiac G8, so hopefully Ford might take a cue from GM and try to repeat that magical formula of repackaging an Australian muscle sedan for US consumption. I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen, though. Ford's already got a very full line-up in the US, and I would imagine the Falcon would cannibalize sales from the Taurus and Taurus SHO.

Which car would you choose? A 1974 Ford Falcon XB or a 2003 Ford Falcon BA?
Q. Its either classic muscle with about 17 litres/km or 11 litres/km for the new falcon.
Asked by justforlolz - Fri Jan 1 06:31:37 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would absolutely buy a BA. I recently finished a project car for my brother-in-law. It was an XC Falcon, we rebuilt a 351 Cleveland and put it in, along with a single-rail 4 speed manual. The old cars may look the part, and the big V8 sounds beefy, but overall they are not that fun to drive. Heavy steering, handles like an apartment block on wheels, uncomfortable interior, points ignition which needs constant adjustments, takes a country mile to stop the bloody thing, no aircon, bad acoustics for a stereo, need I go on? My girlfriend has a manual BA Falcon, it's a pretty good car. Only complaint I have is that the standard diff ratio is too high. It's a 3.23, it would be much nicer to drive if it had a 3.7 or 3.9. You just have to slip… [cont.]

A. 6x9s will fit in the back, for the front ones, 6" should fit cleanly. Depending on your CD player, it should not have any problems powering them.

A. Look under the dash on the right side (passenger side). That is where it is located. You will need to pop the hood and unhook the 2 hoses going through the firewall to remove the core.

Auto transmission playing up in Ford Falcon 1995 model?
Q. Auto transmission playing up..Start up and it takes time to go into gear..On open road slips and takes some time to take up again..Took to local garage without looking at it advised "You need new transmission mate..Cost you between $2000.00 to $3000.". Surely there must be some way to see if it can be repaired or these days do you chuck out the old one for a new one.. Anyone give me any advise what to do.. Thanks Ron..
Asked by RONALD N - Fri Oct 12 19:14:09 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is possible that your transmission is "Shot", however, before going "all the way" on a replacement, check your gearbox oil level, check the gearbox cooler pipes for leaks, (if fitted), check cooler pipe/s, connections to radiator for leaks, Get, (if possible), "torque converter" tested, (If you find water has entered the gearbox, it will change the colour of your oil, and stop the "drivebands", "selecters", ) etc, from working, thus loosing pulling power, / Drive, from the box. Repairing a leak, water contamination, or replacement Torque Converter, will be cheaper than a new, / replacement box. Hope this helps you with a course of action before the enormous payout for a new one. best wishes, good luck.

Does a mint condition '65 Ford Falcon get good gas mileage?
Q. I just want to know if I'll be paying out my as$ for gas with my new car.
Asked by Bright Eyes - Thu Aug 24 19:06:27 2006 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It should if it is in mint condition. I had a 1963 Ford Falcon. It had a straight six, 289 engine. It gave me 34 mpg on a cross country trip when it was fifteen years old. If the car has been kept up in its 40 plus years you'll have a pretty economical classic car in your garage. My Falcon was "kidnapped and murdered" in Kansas City in the fall of 1978. Stolen and wrecked and dumpped in the bottom of a deep gulley! It was like a member of the family had been killed. I stand corrected. Thank you to the folks who answered after me.

Future of Ford Motor Company in Australia?
Q. Just seeking some opinions here in a public forum. I am an employee/tradesman at the Ford Falcon assembly plant in Broadmeadows, Melbourne Australia. With all the news of Ford losing $8.7 billion dollars last quarter, and closing many plants and sacking tens of thousands of workers in the US, how much longer can the Australian manufacturing division of Ford go untouched? We just launched the new Falcon model inj April and are already planning to reduce shifts and we have down days (production employees stay home, paid 50%) once a fortnight. And we just launched a new model! There is plans to build the new 2010 Ford Focus in Australia and not South Africa, but I don't understand why, in the current climate, it makes sense to do so. What… [cont.]
Asked by Foggy - Mon Jul 28 07:22:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. if our dollar weakens, then it seems likely that Australia could become the rear-wheel drive production centre of Ford globally. Ford in US would save quite a lot of money. If our dollar stays as strong as it is, or worse, gets stronger, than I doubt that this would happen. It would not be profitable enough, and production could halt all together, and (as much as I wouldn't like this to happen) Australia could be left without any of its own models, and minimal production here. Ford could even end up just selling US models here, or just surrender all its fleet sales to Holden... Whatever happens, I wish you the best of luck. At least all the Chrysler blokes, got to go to Mitsubishi when they first opened here...

Will front seats from a 1990 ford bronco or 1972 ford tournio fit in a1964 ford falcon 2dr coupe?
Q. i just gutted my car and realized that now i got no seats. lol. not that it is a daily driver or anything, but i wanna put some seats in there to be able to put in some gas and take her around the block periodically, without buying "new" seats. i wanna redo the originals eventually
Asked by MisterJosh - Thu Nov 15 04:14:08 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If they are bucket seats in the Bronco or Torino you can probably fabricate some brackets as it's not likely the original holes will line up. If they are bench seats, I doubt very much you can make the Torino seat fit as it was a wider car. If the Bronco has a bench seat take a meaurement. You don't want to just put a seat on the floor without fastening it down somehow or the first time you hit the brakes you'll be thrown forward. If you just want to drive the car around the block or get gas and neither seat fits get a cheap bucket seat from a junkyard and fabricate a way to hold it to the floor.
